Gig Reviews

25th June 2004 - Bass Museum

3rd September 2004 - Onion Album Launch Party at The Brewhouse.

3rd November 2004 - Battle of the Bands. Apart from us 4 other bands took part they were: Altra Volta, 8 Days, Van Hire and The David Bishop Moment. After 3 of the 4 acts had played the funk ass lads then took the stage and played Purple Haze and our own composition "The Show".After a nerve racking wait the judges then came and revealed that S.O.S had won.  Thanks to all the people that showed up and well done to all the other bands who took part. So with then we went home with another award around our neck.

4th November 2004 - Because S.O.S won BOTB then we were able to do a few songs at the schools Autumn Concert. We were only supposed to do one song but stuff 'em eh. We played an intro with riffs from some of the best British artists and then played Oh well by Fleetwood Mac and Fly Away (also Own Compostion).

20th November 2004 - S.O.S rocked the church with our acoustic version of The Show as part of Dan's and Tommy's GCSE Coursework. Dan also did a seperate  amazing guitar solo called Night Sky for his GCSE work.

14th December 2004 - was a great show - Poorly planned and organised but hey it was worth it (when S.O.S and Altra Volta played) in the end. S.O.S never entered The Talent Show as they had won Battle of the Bands.

22nd Febuary 2005 - This was a great sucess which raised almost 100 pound that S.O.S gave to the this years Red Nose Day funds.S.O.S also funked up the disco classic 'Everybody Dance Now' which the crowd absoultly loved, especially when frontman tom took to the proud way of free styling choruses that no one could ever imagine off the top of their heads. S.O.S also played all the songs that will be on our first EP 'Behind Closed Doors'.

26th February 2005 - 3 nights later S.O.S played a 3 song set at Song and Dance evening, the funky foursome played  Behind Closed Doors,Spanish Girl and In Her Eyes.Toms mic cut off but the funked up front man used his brain and swiped a near by mic and the crowd went crazy!!The band were picking up complements all night which equalled another slap on the back for the four funky mofos .

3rd March 2005 - Bar XV opened many doors for the young lads of funk, not only did they impress everybody who came to see them but also showed that they are a serious and dangerous band!Mouths were left open after S.O.S hit Bar XV with a 9 song set that just showed what the S.O.S boys are capable of if given the chance!!!With Onion and Inertia also rocking Bar XV it was a great night of live music!!! Also sad enough it was the last ever gig played at the well known and loved Bar XV

13th April 2005 - Derby  opened for S.O.S and what a way to open it!!S.O.S hit the Remac Bar in Derby with a red hot 11 song set that set the place on fire! The crowd may have been small due to the none existant publicity of the gig, but that didnt stop S.O.S showing them that Burton bands still aren't dead and that S.O.S are surely capable of defeating all obstructions that are put in their way!The young lads may have been put on the spot many a time that night, the first incedent of the night was being looked upon as being a band that is not ready, due to their age. Then later(7 songs into the set)the young funky guitarist, who is Dan, had to face a snapped string, but as they say in show buisness 'the show must go on' and dealed with it 'fantasicly' said one onlooker! At last theres something in Burton to be proud of apart from beer!!Also rumpas and the strollers added to a great night of live music!

18th April 2005 - First Heat Battle of the Bands.Wow S.O.S really showed people what they can do on Monday night! With 6 other great bands playing S.O.S kept their heads down and watched the competiton, but when it was time to play S.O.S came out of their shells and showed the underestimating people of Tamworth what S.O.S are all about! The crowd really got their teeth into S.O.S with 2 teen dance stars on the front row and what seemed an endless applause from the crowd after there last song! The end result is that S.O.S made it through to the Semi finals in Lichfield on the 5th July at The Garrick!

30th May 2005 - Coors Visters Centre, where it all began a year ago but this time the S.O.S lads had Tweleve new songs up there sleeve and had found their feet in the music scene.S.O.S took the stage at 2:30pm that afternoon and left the stage with another show stoping gig under their belt!!There was a minor upset half way through the set as S.O.S were hit with the curse of the snapping strings as tommys A string left the gig.But apart from that and the P.A being a little too loud all was good in the S.O.S camp!

3rd June 2005 - S.O.S , Onion no more to be said!

7th July 2005 - S.O.S has had a mad time this week playing at the finals of the Rock the Garrick competition!! First playing at the Garrick on Tuesday 5th July for the semi finals playing against some familiar faces and some unfamiliar ones! The competition was tough with ten other bands playing for a chance in the final! S.O.S finally hit the stage playing one of the newer songs in the set 'Devils Cup' and then playing Behind Closed Doors. After listening to the rest of the competition S.O.S then sat back and enjoyed the sensational Marshall band with there crazy French drummer with his huge but amazing drum solo on un-orthodox percussive instruments, such as the stage floor and Tommy’s hat! The judges came out with the results of the nights festivities announcing whit label as the winning band, then Perception second and then the boys them self’s in third place!! Undeterred by 3rd place the boys came back the next night to play at the final. S.O.S came back calmer and more collected ready to show the rest of the Staffordshire area what Burtons funk band can do!! So S.O.S tightened up there set playing ‘Want to leave’ and also’ Behind Closed Doors’. So on the boys went again and again did S.O.S go down brilliantly as there applause seemed endless. Pleased with their performance S.O.S retired to there box to watch what the rest of what the evening had to offer. The Marshall band took to the stage again playing the same set but this time instead of using Tommy’s hat to play on, the French drummer picked Pete’s hat! As the judges went off to adjudicate, only to come back to announce White Label the winners and the band going through with them, a band with a questionable stage presence called Bitter Creek. Undeterred S.O.S held their heads up high as they knew that they had done extremely well to get through to the final ten out of around ninety school bands. Also Andrew Giligin, Michael Finigin, Pedro Flabdango, and Albert Von-Flalbert also made an appearance. S.O.S would like to thank John Bough and all the judges and Staffordshire performing arts, Marshall, and the Marshall band for making the two evenings extra special and Marshall for giving there beautiful amps to play through.

3rd September 2005 - S.O.S played at the much loved Brewhouse last night to a great turn out for all of the bands, S.O.S hit the night off playing with Gecko and Blank Vensants formally The Cyclones, S.O.S played a kick ass set containing all of the classics such as Want to Leave, In Her Eyes and Behind Closed Doors. However the lads played an acoustic rendition of Spanish Girl much to the delight of the regular S.O.S followers. Also a new song crept on to the tail end of the funky foursome's set called All of That, the song couldnt have gone down any better. It was a great night of music espessially for the Black Vensants as it was there album launch night. If you missed the gig dont worry plenty more coming up  including S.O.S album launch party. S.O.S had a wicked turn out. Thanks very much to all who came to cheer on the funky foursome, it was much appreciatred. Also the gig was advertised on Kerrang radio, S.O.S finally get there name into the airwaves. S.O.S would like to thank Paul for all his work on the night also the two bands and again every one who came

8th november s.o.s played there first gig in a while after there short post recording break  and the host of the  first gig back  was  the school battel of the bands. To the likely lads  suprise they came out victorious, The funky foursome played some  stiff competition  with altra volta playing  van hire  dma and  air raid .A big thank you to all who came along  and made it an extra special evening . The folowing  evening  due to there  performance s.o.s played at the schools annual auturmn concert   there set showcased three of the songs off the up and coming ep  they where spanish girl ,the show and devls cup . a fun evening was had by all
